Warwick University have drastically reduced their electrical consumption, and Carbon footprint, in one of their IT Rooms by installing an EcoCooling evaporative cooling system

This small 30kW server room was previously cooled using three 10kW Daikin wall mounted air conditioning units, with each drawing up to 30 amps.

Proving a maximum flow rate of 14,000m3/hr the replacement system uses just one side discharge EcoCooler drawing less than 5 amps at full load and an extract system situated at the side of the servers. Providing the same level of cooling, with a reduction in electricity and power consumption as well as using natural, green technology to cool the server room.

This simple system will save in the region of 54tonnes of Carbon per annum and over £7000 in running costs. EcoCooling are able to help reduce cooling costs by up to 90% when compared to traditional refrigeration systems. In addition, Maintenance costs will also be far lower than a conventional system.

Warwick University see Evaporative cooling as a real way of reducing the amount of refrigeration-based air conditioning used around their vast site

These temperatures are provided by using less than 1.5KW of energy. Evaporative cooling is the most cost-effective way of cooling Data centres and also the most environmentally friendly.
