Leisure Centres benefit from energy efficient evaporative cooling

EcoCooling evaporative coolers are being used successfully in leisure centres to decrease electricity costs by significant amounts and create more pleasant environments for gym users by introducing increased air movement using cool fresh air.

Wycombe leisure has installed systems in both Chipping Norton and High Wycombe to solve 2 differing sets of problems, both of which are common to many leisure sites. At High Wycombe the centre suffered from excessive summertime temperatures and high humidity levels, due to the proximity of the swimming pool and an ineffective air-con system.

The EcoCooling system was designed to introduce a high internal air change rate to reduce odours and also build up a positive pressure to effectively pressurise the area and minimise the influx of warm humid air from the swimming pool.

At Chipping Norton, the excessive cost of air conditioning and a move towards more environmentally friendly products prompted the move to evaporative cooling. Here 2 extract fans were introduced at low level and one EcoCooler was used this time introducing air through a high level textile duct. The Gym now feels fresher and the previous odour problems have disappeared due to the high air change rate that the EcoCooling system provides.
