Improved Air Quality For Equines Backstage at Olympia.
For several years the organisers of Olympia have been aware of the increased issue of poor air quality backstage. (Stable and warm up area.) Much of the problem has been created by London’s heavy traffic which is on the increase despite the congestion zone charge. Add into an enclosed atmosphere one hundred plus horses, bedding, forage, synthetic surface, tractors and trailers and it is inevitable that dust and allergens will pollute the air.
This year Olympia has teamed up with Equus Environmental to improve air circulation using an evaporative cooling system that provides a constant flow of fresh filtered air, most importantly without causing drafts, removing dust, odours and other contaminants. Added benefits include less airborne dust which lowers the burden of respiratory challenge for both horses and humans whilst working in the confined backstage area. Equus Environmental have fitted units on many permanent and temporary buildings including racing stables, equine veterinary practices, indoor arenas, treadmill rooms and horse boxes. With the global climate becoming warmer and wetter, Equus Environmental has an ecologically sound solution to providing a better workplace atmosphere.
Dr David Marlin, consultant to Equus explained “Allergic and infectious respiratory disease is common in horses and people working with horses; poor air quality is a contributory factor. Even good quality forage and bedding will have some dust and mould spores. We are delighted that the Olympia Horse show has a forward thinking management team enabling us to showcase the evaporative cooling and filter system to provide better quality air in the backstage areas”
